I've been reading/watching too much nice stuff lately, I can't even think of a vile character! Maybe I should look into that Tokyo Ghoul thing everyone's talking about.

TKG is like... good... bad??? Imo I think it would be incredible as a slice of life and I think the first five-ish chapters are really cute in their overly pretentious kafkaesque circlejerk. But I just can't bring myself to care about the fights even though they're really well drawn and quite dynamic. I just care about the characters and human/ghoul interaction / what it means to be human or ghoul. (that was pretentious in its own right lmfao)
NEWAY yeah maybe read it? You can do it in like a day. I wouldn't rec the anime, it's all censored.

my fave bit of censorship in the tkg anime was the 2nd episode when a thing happened and literally the whole screen except for like a centimeter at the top left was censored and you could just see a dude jiggling in that little tiny bit of space

I read the first 6 chapters and pretentious literature references aside, it's nice! I'm not looking forward to the fights though, especially if they go the shonen way and take up entire chapters... BUT I can skim over them and focus on the slice of life bits and maybe save a page or two for bloody vile zombie icons c:

idk idk. I want to go back to making icons but on the other hand re-joining comms and applying to comms and doing the whole icon thing sounds so tedious :U

Sadly (Imo, at least. I think they're stupid but cute) they drop the pretentious literature refs. And yeah, they do go full shounen. That's exactly what I do! I also adore one of the investigators, Mado, and his daughter, who later becomes an investigator. I'm doin' it for 1 or 2 characters. I also really like Touka so it's not like it's all bad? It's just not as incredible as a lot of people seem to make it out to be.

I think I can see the full shonen starting, I'm on chapter 58 and the ghoul army/turf war looks suspiciously like something Kaneki could solve by bamfing up and then convincing everyone to be friends... It's seinen though, it shouldn't get too bad... right?? But Mado & Touka some ghouls whose names I don't remember are worth reading for, even if I have to endure shonentastic ghoul battles :U And I saved some pages for the vile icon, so mission accomplished \o/

I WANT TO. I'm gonna sign up for stuff and then hopefully not lose interest. YES. ICONS.

GOD THAT ARC IS SO DUMB?!1!?!!! and it just gets dumber, I'm mad. There was a kind of interesting thing that happened around chapter 100-ish I think? But at the same time the ghoul war is still really stupid and the fact that Kankei DOES bamf up is just... dumb.
It's seinen but just barely. Basically the only thing seinen about it is the amount of gore they're allowed to show? I think had it kept with the Kafka parallels or remained a slice of life series it'd be better and more seinen-y, or at least the type of seinen that we know and love.

At least snk fans stayed away from the other, actually good SnK (actually there's two???), Sidonia no Kishi. Cause more people die in Knights of Sidonia/Sidonia no Kishi on a regular basis than SnK and it's about humanity facing an oppressive alien force that can kill them all really easily.

Also better art, actually well developed characters, likable mc??? What the fuck man. I guess I should be glad that the fandom isn't dumb but at the same time that's probably because there is no fandom.

Ahhh you like Sidonia!?? I fucking love it. lmao, ongoing harem and all ok. I started reading it after I watched the first 2-3 episodes of the anime and wow I feel dumb for not having read it sooner even though a ton of people recommended it to me. Yeah! It's good. UGH THE ART IS SO BEAUTIFUL! I fucking lovvvvvveee Nihei's art and his attention to detail. Gosh, I am so happy you like it.

I adore Nihei and Sidonia actually has dialog??? And a plot?!! I mean I love BLAME! and Biomega but... this has a plot!!!!! AND A BEAR.

Yeah, the plot! YES, LALA! Lala is amazing ok. I haven't read Biomega or Blame (I read a couple chapters of Blame but that was ages ago so it doesn't count) but I am honestly enjoying snk more than I thought I would.

OMG please read BLAME!??!?!! It's very different in that there's very little dialog and it's more atmospheric. That's how Nihei's comics usually are. They're normally just architecture porn.
